Pardon this photo- it was taken late last night- in very ambient lighting- but I am sure you get the idea. Tonight I will begin to turn these into necklaces. That is the part I love- it is like putting icing on the cake. More photos to come...Before I go- I wanted to share with you an email I received last night. (*I asked her if I could post it and she said Sure! hee!)

"Hi Jane,
I ordered your book Altered Curiosities and received it yesterday. I
absolutely love this book. I have purchased others only to be
disappointed. You give in-depth instructions and it is awesome. I
recently found I have this desire to create altered jewelry (I have
always been an artist) but needed to do something different to express
myself. This book is such a treasure for me. Thank you thank you thank
you for writing this book. I hope you will be writing more. You
certainly have a following with me.

Sincerely,

Cindy
cindyforrester.etsy.com
"

AND she is THANKING ME? HA! I am the one who needs to be thanking her (Which I did... in fact I think I might have gushed with too many Thank you's!). She made me STOP and take the time to really think the things I have accomplished and to stop from racing from one deadline to the next. I seem to be living my life one step ahead of myself these days...

Not only was I thrilled that she liked the book- But I am happy to learn about her ETSY shop! I LOVE her work... so it was a funtastic discovery.

Anyway- I am glad I took a moment to reflect on things. I understand how life can really get in the way of living at times- and we all need a moment to stop and breathe deeply. Might I suggest that you take a moment to do the same too? Thats right... Do it now... Take a minute and breathe deep.
More in a few...

Wonderfully-dampish Monday!
Happy Monday to you. Hope your week is starting out lovely!

I have a nice cup of brown with cinnamon- so things are good.
I have been keeping busy as best as I can with making things in the studio.
It is so very hard to get back into the swing of things when returning from teaching and travel.

It is as if I have a slow leak in my energy level.
I have a self imposed deadline fast approaching and I begin to create some things for that this week- however I did treat myself (If you will call it that) to making some delicious bezels- last night. Take a peek:

Next I need to think about what I want to add to these- I have an idea...
but it is a secret! I will share more with you soon.

I also made this odd necklace on Saturday night. I created this necklace using old estate-sale necklaces which I took apart and reused. I then hung this lovely deep brass Cicada from the bottom.

I suppose I shall list this on ETSY... It has been a while since I have listed things there...
Finally and most of all- I have to thank Tejae Floyde  http://www.tejaesart.blogspot.com/ for our art exchange that we did back in July-
Here is what she made for me:
gifttojane001

gifttojane002

gifttojane003
Look at THAT patina!!! I must say- this was so delightful and SO very Me- right down to that beautiful verdigris!

It is one of those pieces of art that helps me meditate on my purpose in life- when things get too hectic!

Perhaps that is why I needed to bring it to work and place it right below my computer monitor so that all I have to do is look down and smile.
Thank you ever some much Tejae for your talent...
Go see more of Tejae's work on her blog...

She is also teaching these-polymer clay encased heart techniques at Artists Nook in Ft. Collins, CO Saturday October 13, 2007.

A few final things before I return to my office world- post-lunch...

* I am SO surprised with the response I am getting from my heart necklace give away! I am truly flattered~ I had NO IDEA that there were so many of you out there reading!!! I love knowing that you are out there- it is SO nice... I have been reading your replies and I am LOVING your favorite supplies AND artists!!! It is a treat to receive such interesting answers!!! You still have plenty of time to comment too- I am thinking of a very nifty way to share with you the results- which may or may-not include a short video! If I can figure that part out...

* I talked to Terrie from Fleckenstein Gallery this weekend and she really wants me to show some work again. INDEED it has been a while since I have had work on the walls- so I am going to see what I can assemble and bring to her. *She is in the process of moving to Hampden soon! It is going to be a FANTASTIC space! I can't wait to see it~

*Speaking of galleries- ARTSTAR in Philly is such an amazing Gallery- I have had SUCH an overwhelming demand for my prints and drawings! I keep sending them and they keep selling out... I hope I will be able to one day- have a show there... it is such a brilliant space. (Now if I can get some new drawings created!!! Heee!)

* I will be Teaching and Vending my artsy things at Art & Soul just in case you are out there the first week in October.

Okay- I need to get moving... I will chat more with you later!
(thank you again...)

HOME again HOME again...
Artunraveled07003
Ahhh- Well that seemed like a long time away! It is good to be home.

WHAT A brilliant time I had. It has been since April 2006 since I last taught and although I felt a little rusty- It was a great experience. I loved everything about it. Seriously- I really did. (Although I am not much of a complainer. I can get along nicely most anywhere...) I thought this whole event was Well organized and was very convenient!
Demengwynn
I met some lovely and Uber-talented students and fellow teachers- as well as getting to reunite with some old friends. (Heee!)

I love love loved- seeing people I only know: On-Line- in the flesh! Heee! THAT is such a strangely exciting experience.

I brought my book to share and had overwhelmingly positive feedback.

I only wish I had taken more photos- but I was SO darn busy each day- I could barely find time. Except on SUNDAY when I was not teaching and I took photos of the Students work in THOMAS'SSS Class!!!
See:
Wynnshrines003

And- our flights went off without any issues!

Now I am home- without a VOICE. It left sometime Sunday night and I sound very deep and totally un-girl-like! (I have been drinking tea... lots of tea)

When I got home- I instantly went to the studio to see Virgil- who THREW himself at the both of us and then on the floor- and rolled around and Meowed like crazy- Nothing like that kind of home-coming! Poppy had been sitting in the bay window as if she had been waiting there as Lookout. We came in and were run over by Vespa who was a BUNDLE of energy. Poppy next who ran around at our feet- and then of course- Grumpy Perth who was still up on the bed. She MEOWED LOUDLY in protest! Heee! She has not left my side since... I love her so.

I was hot here too- I watered my plants when I settled in. They were thirsty. I have ripe tomatoes now! I then straighten up a bit and went and took a long nap. Later - I got up and went out to the studio to spend sometime with Virgil.

I feel a bit out of sorts- Like- "Okay, what now...?" I have been working and preparing for this trip with such vigor- that I now am faced with an open schedule for a few weeks- and it makes me feel strange. A little panicked... I had a hard time with living an unstructured life. HA! Go figure.

So- it is good to be home.

TOMORROW- I am staying home in hopes of finding my voice. I also need to unpack my whole studio and do laundry. I could use some food in this house too since we are out of the everyday things. It will be good to get all of that out of the way- unlike years past where- I have waited days to get those things accomplished.
Wynnunraveled01
Ahhh... I am laughing at the fact that I am looking forward to cleaning and household chores.

More to come!

Plumbers and Tattoo artists...
tattoo_heart_sketch
I just got a call from my friend Bill Stevenson- from
the Baltimore Tattoo Museum. (Listen to an interview with Bill) He is going to work on my Cherry blossoms next Sunday! Huzzah! It has been quite a few years...
59156,1172501466,1
I am so tickled. I connect with Bill. He is super educated and witty.
He is sometimes quiet and thinks about the things he is saying which is hard to find at times in people.
When you are a tattoo artist, I think that 50% is the tattoo and the other 50% is the relationship between you and your client. The time you spend, sitting together in an intimate space, truly lends itself to very unique conversations.

Tonight- I am going to head out to have dinner with Jason and Lisa and browse some books and drink iced coffee.
Tomorrow I may venture out to some local flea markets. The rest of the day and night will be spent in the studio!
Sunday, Thomas and I are going to try to get out on the scooter for a quick ride. Then I will be back in the studio working again- with the windows up and the warm spring breeze blowing in! Mmmmm!

SO- What are you planning on doing this weekend?

Okay my deer(s)
Have a lovely weekend- Get outside and breathe!

S P A R T A N S !
LATE DAY for me...
I have a lot to catch you up on-

First:
Thomas and I ventured out- despite vowing to never step foot in a movie theater ever again- and we went to see 300 this weekend and LOVED IT! But I think I have this tremendous BOY side to me where I love watching things that are aggressive and dark like battles and war~ No comment...

Indeed- it was well worth it. I came away with a VERY strong message- and that message was "CONVICTION".

It was so good to get out to see this- and Not to mention that I think it is very motivating to get into shape and work out! Haaa! Damn those actors and actresses were in shape! WooZah!

We met up with two lovely boys/men. (I have such a hard time saying the word man- everyone to me are still wonderful boys...) Anyhoo- We met up with Thomas's new Gaming friends- Vince and John (left to right)!
silly002
John again
silly003

SIlly001
And Thomas and me...

We went to the Senator to see a matinée! Perfect time to visit- everyone that was there was very much into the movie which meant NO Talking and no cell phones... Afterwards, we headed over to Ryan's Daughter Irish Pub to eat lunch and drink some Guinness beer! (No- I had unsweetened iced tea damn it...)

What a fun time I had- as you can see- I was explaining to the boys, how I document most of my like through my camera and a blog! I told them to smile pretty... they were kind enough and played along.

Then:
Later that night- after having our plans canceled with Thomas's Dad- we changed directions and went to a very good Japanese restaurant for dinner and I ate some sushi! Yum! (Later that night is when Thomas and witnessed that horrible accident...Uuugh!)

Finally:
Sunday began in bed with Thomas and waking up to warm sun and open windows-with the birds making lost of noise. We went out to run some errands and dropped off some things to a few of Thomas's friends. We found a very interesting Korean/Vietnamese restaurant in walking distance and we had some VERY good and oh so interesting food. I ordered something that I thought was one thing- and it turned out to be... unusual! It is hard to explain but it was if it came to the table as a meal and as it cooled down- it turned into soup! WHATEVER it was- was the most delicious soup I ever had.

In between all of this- I was art making and photo shooting for the authors photo- (I had to have my photo taken for the book- and who better to do it than- the husband with his fancy Nikon camera and AMAZING directions- like- "NO! Don't LOOK at me- Look HERE... Now STAY STILL!" Hehehehehehee!!! I was thinking- HE IS CRAZY- and what turned out was really nice! (I chose two photos- in the end- Not sure which one Will finally end up in the book... we shall see...)

Anyway- it is Monday and Busy at work. The time change has really changed things for me completely! Time is passing So fast today. I went to exercise and when I got back I realized that I had forgotten to change my little desk clock and I instantly got that much closer to 5:00 o'clock! Yay!

Okay- I better scoot... I will chat more in a bit!
OH! One more thing- THIS is UP at ETSY...

Lunch Time Friday!
janeface536

janeface535
Eeek! Oh Dear- MY BIG HEAD! Uuugh!

The Storms came and went overnight- the same ones which ripped through the South! I woke up about 2:30am last night having had a bad dream- something about forgetting supplies for a workshop along with Thomas being shot and killed by the Russian Maffia? I know... too strange. Anyway, I woke up and had to wake him up to tell him! I know! I am sure he was thrilled- but thankfully he can fall back to sleep easily! Me- not so easy- I decided to go on the computer until 3:30am and check out Ebay... Thats what I get for going to bed a little early.

Tonight: Thomas and I are going out to dinner with Jason and Lisa for Thomas' early birthday dinner (His Birthday is March 6th) Maybe somewhere in Towson I think. Perhaps Cafe Isis in Mays Chapel shopping center in Timonium! Yum... Then when I get home I am going to finish up some drawings.

Tomorrow morning: Thomas is going to the Bunker to play a game with the guys so I am going to run out to the studio, open the window, turn on some silly "How To" T.V. show, or maybe just CNN news. I am then going start to make some more pendants- pencils, pottery shards, etc! I really want to fill ETSY with some new stuff. I also have to begin to prime a canvas for my next painting. That should take a little while to build up a very nice smooth surface. All of this and to begin to think of a Small Shrine Series for selling at Mud and Metal!

Tomorrow Night: We are going out ONCE AGAIN with Jason and Lisa and his friend who has just returned from Japan. He sounds very interesting and I look forward to meeting him! Not sure where we are going to go to eat- but I am sure it will be lovely!

Sunday: Ahhh a Totally Unplanned day I think! Finishing up things out in the studio? Who knows things always seem to change so I will keep it scratchy...

(OH! One more thing- The Black Apple was right- Forever 21 (A store I usually avoid since I feel that it is a wee bit YOUNG for me- and an ALARM will go off the moment I enter- screaming- "MID LIFE CRISIS!") had some AMAZING new Clothes for Spring and Summer! SUCH Retro tops and skirts!

35012932-01
I bought 3 things so far- I could NOT resist- Damn it! Haa!)
Okay- Must get going...

Basement Noodles!
My lunch of Ramen soup tastes like the Basement!

Uuugh! I didn't bring my lunch today thinking I would have the boys grab me something like a bean burrito. Instead they went elsewhere and I could not think of anything to get to eat- so I said, "I WANT NOTHING" and stomped my feet and carried on like a 4 yr old for about a half hour. Then I discovered that I had a package of Ramen in my office, stuffed back in the deepest recesses of the filing cabinet! PURE GOLD to me... I knew my hording skills would serve me well one day! Ha!

Thinking I am so cool and acting sassy and proud- I cooked the heck out of the Ramen in the microwave and sat down to my FEAST! My feast of 2 year old mummified noodles! YUM! Heee! What does this teach me? Stop being so lazy. Or it reassures me that my survival instincts are RIGHT ON and that by hoarding food will help me out, in times of need- Like when I get lost on the top of Mount Hood, or find myself taking a wrong turn on a back road in the middle of a snow storm or, for the melting of the ice caps or a good old alien attack- whichever comes first.

Wow this post did not turn out how I thought it would this morning! Haaa! I was all full of La La La and flowers- but now it is full of piss and vinegar! Haaa!
I guess the side effects of basement noodles is one of Extreme Sassitude! HoooHaaaa!

Onto other things?
* Well- Last night I drew: LINK TO what I had written HERE!
* I got an email from Mud and Metal in Hampden this morning and I think I will start to sell my SHRINES at this shop! (I had contacted her and asked her if she might like the things I make and she said yes! Weee!)
* Nicole sent me an email this morning saying she saw my article in CLOTH PAPER SCISSORS! It will be out on News Stands This week I guess! Huzzah! Oh- What Article is That? I is an article I wrote about how I used the left over wood from studio to build a shrine... (Remember this???)

Okay- Well the soup is now cold and I am ready to move onto the rest of my work and the rest of this day! Uuugh! Haaa! Talk more later!

Pickle
janeface358
A quick good morning to you...
I know you are waiting to see some of the results of my Pickling project from the past day... I will tell you all about it- BUT first:
When I went outside last night to check on the project, I saw a lovely little fluffy grey cat sitting outside of the studio! It looked thin and lanky and slinked away and hid alongside the fence. I went inside and came back with a bowl of yummy kibble. I could see its eyes in the dim light, watching me. I put the bowl down and went back inside and watched- sure enough the kitty came out and gobbled up the food. Later, I went back to check and most of the food was gone and so was the kitty... PEOPLE- Cats need to be kept inside- there should be NO REASON to have outside pets these days! It is TOO dangerous out there. Kitties deserve better love than to be let out... Uuugh! Read more here: "Cracking Down on Pet OwnersAlbuquerque and a growing number of cities are passing tough new measures aimed at ending euthanasia in animal shelters. Owners are even being forced to clean up after their dog in their own backyard" I just feel very strongly about this. I would never allow my girls to be outside to fend for themselves. They are so lovely and affectionate and enjoy being beside us all the time- I could never imagine them outside with foxes, raccoons, rats and people that could hurt them...)

Sigh

Anyhoo- Yes, I did get out there and I checked on my metal shrine! The pitting and the erosion process was well underway! Some people asked me about the sawdust and why I use it. Well, I like to use it for several reasons: It helps to keep things moist, it creates a nice pattern onto the surface of the piece, and I can "pack" it up against the sides. You can also use other things too- like hampster bedding, paper, etc. I have even read recipes for suspending your object over top of the chemicals to allow the vapors to permeate the metal- or you can just submerged it in the chemicals or heat them in a crock pot too... (I think I mention this a while back- but I finally bought this book: "The Colouring, Bronzing and Patination of Metals" in fact I think I might have bought every book out there on the subject! Heeee!)
Here are my results so far:
butterfly014

butterfly013

butterfly011
So I rinsed it off and took my photos and then placed it back into the container
and added more fresh sawdust overtop and closed it up for another day.
butterfly012
Indeed- I will share more when I check back again... In the meantime, have a lovely day!
