My New Employer
Just in case you are curious or bored, this is the website for my new employer:
The John P. McGovern Museum of Health and Medical Science

There's actually a new exhibit opening in a little over a week that looks pretty fun called "Grossology" The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body.

Explore the good, the bad and the downright ugly about how your body works!

Sometimes it's stinky, sometimes it's crusty; and sometimes it's slimy. Explore why your body produces mushy, oozy, crusty, scaly, and stinky gunk.

Based on the best-selling book Grossology by Sylvia Branzei, this exhibition uses sophisticated animatronics and imaginative exhibits to tell you the good, the bad and the downright ugly about runny noses, body odor and much more. Families will enjoy the interactive stations and scientific explanations to help teach the “not-so-flattering” components of the human body.

GROSSOLOGY™ is science in disguise and delightfully disgusting!

Wee!

I've Been Doing it Wrong

Why did no one give me this checklist before I started dating!?! How was I to know my crooked seams and constant tardiness were such a handicap?

I do keep reading, just not posting here
Been a few weeks since I posted. Things are about as normal as they get around here. I am still doing the school thing with way more homework and thought than I ever expected. This diploma will be a really good thing to have, it is very through.
To reward myself and still keep my finger in art, I signed up with a master felter in Asheville to continue my training of felt making and now dyeing (sp)
I thought I would just take the first class but Chad, the teacher convinced me to take the whole 3 part series so I will have 2 more trips up there and Phil can't come with me, yippee, some weekends to myself doing what I love. Found a cute cabin to rent and it was open for both weekends so I booked it. Has a great porch looking over a pond.
Well, back to homework. This week it is designing pages with grids, real fun...

woe is me
i had that bob marley hold experience again today and it reminded me that it's been forever since i last wrote in here. what have i been up to?

well, first of all, i can't believe it's may already.

it's my birthday month and i am getting old! i have lofty dreams of making a total getaway to catalina island for the weekend of my birthday. actually making a getaway to anywhere would be nice. i've been craving a vacation/break for months now, it's so hard to take one when there are so many deadlines and i keep getting one important project after another, things i can't say no to! i'm honored to have so many cool projects on my plate, and so many of such importance to me, but i am burned out. with a capital B.

plus i've been volunteering one day a week which maybe doesn't sound like a lot but, man oh man... it sometimes takes a day or two just to recover from the exhaustion of running around, worrying about animals and multitasking in ridiculous ways, not to mention seeing animals put down all day. it seriously troubles me that i can't call out of volunteering when i have a project deadline too, i just end up burning the candle at both ends and resenting my volunteer job a little (ok, a lot) because they don't have enough volunteers as it is. they have a sign up that says "volunteers, take a day off! take a week off! take a month off if you need to!" (or something like that) but it is a LIE!!! the last time i asked to have a day off, they didn't respond.

wow, this post quickly spiraled into sadness! let me cheer this post up with something i think is ridiculous:

somebody said this art print of my painting from the shop looks like the brown cat is about to thwack the two (unsuspecting) cats on the right with an oar, and i think she's totally right and now it's the only way i can see this painting:

LiveJournal has been berry berry good to me.
Other than when I'm commenting on FL posts or asking for advice or fishing for compliments on my jewelry and photography, I've really enjoyed the connections and real friends I've made through LJ. I know some people have real life friends that are on LJ but I've met a ton of people in Real Life that I first met on LJ and there are a ton more that I'd like to meet.

There have also been several friends of the type that you get to talking with and realize you've shared past lives together and that sort of thing.

Through LJ, I've actually met in person 29 of my 149 listed friends. Ok, that's cheating a bit because I knew 2 of them, [info]kalthia and [info]tomyris_beat from several years ago. But still, that's 18% of my LJ friends that I've actually met as a result of LJ. I don't think too many people use LJ with the intention of actually going out and meeting these folks and becoming real friends. I do and chances are, if you friend me, I'll get around to coming to see you eventually.

3 of the 29 have even come to my house for my pre-4th of July parties. Very soon, I'll be wandering again and hope to add 3 more names at least to my "met list". Actually I know for almost certain I'll be meeting [info]godorion at the Texas Highland Games in Dallas. And I know for an absolute fact I'll be meeting [info]blurofego because she will be acting as my tour guide and fellow troublemaker for the week I'm there.

Sometimes you make an almost instantaneous connection with someone and you just have to explore it further. That's the way it was for [info]chimerae and I and we have become very good friends and confidants to the point of planning metaphysical events together.

And this is the way it has been for [info]blurofego and I. We've only known each other on LJ for a month and made contact for the first time 2 weeks ago. Since then, we've sat up late passing IM's back and forth through the ethers and we've talked on the phone several times. She's a Pagan, I'm a Shamanist. She's married with 3 kids and I've been living with the same person for almost 13 years now and childless by choice. Not really much in common on the surface but there was an instant spark of recognition when we began chatting. Something in each of us that recognized the other.

A very wise person told me once, we each spend our lives looking for other members of our tribe.

When you find one, you just have to go and get to know them better and so I shall. And I hope some time to meet with all of you others that may be members of my tribe and those who will end up simply being good friends.

I'm constantly amazed at the good things LiveJournal has brought my way.

Peace,

Wander

I recently attended our annual "goth prom" held at a club in Minneapolis. The theme was, of course, steampunk or I wouldn't be posting here. Thought you guys would enjoy seeing pictures. Everyone looked fantastic and there were some very creative self-made gadgets and gizmos.

Still pictures are here

I have moving pictures as well! It was my first experiment making a movie. I didn't realize how compressed the program would edit my multiple videos. What you'll see is about 80% compressed so you're missing much conversation and action and it's rather nonsensical. The system also put my videos in random order, so it's rather non sequitur. Instead of thinking of this as a train wreck video, I'd prefer to think of it as...ummmm..avant-garde. Yes, that's it.
Anyway, enough rambling.

Here's two and a half minutes of the evening captured in moving sepia tone:

i quote:

Digby and Iona recently released its Fall 2008 collection of intrepid jewelry inspired by themes from the American Civil War and British Imperialism. Comprised of several sections, including Elements of Disguise, Instruments of Pursuit and Means of Retribution, the series forms a "manual of accessories for an adventurer."

which way is up?
Wow...I'm spinning in circles...or at least it feels like it. Maybe it's the iced latte...

Somehow I keep giving myself knuckle busters...I look down and a knuckle is bleeding...weird.

I have art prints to make. How many should I make? I have (5) designs so far...and that may be it for this go-around depending on time (I might try to whip up a pomegranate carving)...which I have very little of...VERY little. (Why am I wasting it here on lj, you ask? Because I love you guys...is that wrong?) Anyway...I am trying to figure out how to display my pieces that I'm selling in clear envelopes. They will be 5x7 and 4x6. I was thinking in baskets...or maybe my vintage bread box...? Too many decisions...but like I said, this is a trial run...I'll know more next time.

I went to the Wal Marts today...Ian's fan was making a funny sound so I got him a new one. I was getting paranoid that it was going to catch fire in the middle of the night or something...and since he can't open his window due to not having a screen...he NEEDS a fan. Because it's hot. HOT. It's supposed to be in the 90's and close to 100 this week. Gotta love the California valley...we go from winter to summer...no spring to speak of in these parts. Walmart has great prices on juice, by the way...just in case you were price comparing juice.

C and I are going to go to lunch at a new mexican place...new to us anyway. It's been around for 10 years. But *I* have been around for 30 in this town and go to my old faithfuls just out of habit and familiarity.

I use The random word generator a lot to come up with titles for my photographs in my photoblog, Gosh! Wow!!. Today, I decided to use it in the photograph, instead. The words underlined are the random words. You can click the image to enlarge.

Oh, and Susan Tuttle linked to this Random Art Prompt Generator a while ago, and I’ve found it irresistible.

Painting for Sale! Fert update

I just got this painting back from London! I was told it was very well liked. I snapped a quick pic of it framed and hanging. The gallery price is $1800 but I'm having a big sale to help with Theda expenses so I'm asking just $500 for it here: http://tinaimel.com/Youthiswastedstore.htm shipping is free.

Today is going much better than we expected. Pete made a spread sheet so we can keep track of all of her meds. She's eating good, is chipper and alert and comfortably sleeping on my very favorite blanket which is now her very favorite blanket. She spent the morning in a sack around my neck, munching on yogurt and chicken after having all her medicine. She seems to really enjoying chillin in my purse so I'll probably take her for a walk after dinner if she's up to it.

I want to really thank everyone for sympathizing with me. It definitely helps to have people who've been through this and understand how very painful it is.

Love,

Tina
